CENTRESTAGE, the annual fashion event in Asia organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the 'Creative Industry Development Branch' of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was officially inaugurated at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai today. The exhibition will run until September 6, and will be completely free and open to the trade and the public for four consecutive days. This year marks the important milestone of the 10th CENTRESTAGE, attracting more than 260 brands from 25 countries and regions, a record high, with more diverse international participation, further consolidating Hong Kong's position as Asia's fashion hub.
Chong Sook Fern, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said, 'CENTRESTAGE has been committed to providing a platform for Hong Kong and Asian designers to showcase and exchange ideas for the past decade. This year, the 10th edition of the fair has once again reached a new height in scale and for the first time invited the UK to participate as a 'partner country'. At the CENTRESTAGE ELITES event held the day before yesterday (September 1), we were very honoured to invite internationally renowned couture designer Guo Pei to launch her new 'Liuguang' series, which is also her first personal couture show in Hong Kong, adding a dazzling highlight to the fair. During the fair, more than 40 exciting activities will be held, including a record-breaking nearly 30 fashion shows, creating more business opportunities for designers, brands and the industry, and allowing the public to experience world-class fashion up close.'
International Pavilions Gather; Hall of Fame Designers Host Sharing Sessions; Diverse Design Forces Debut
This year's CENTRESTAGE attracted brands from all over the world, including the UK, which made its first appearance as a 'partner country' with 16 brands, including the works of sustainable designer Patrick McDowell, showcasing the diverse landscape of British design. Thailand has a total of more than 40 brands exhibiting, the largest pavilion in its history, including KANZ BY THAITOR and SUNTREE ATELIER, showcasing the vitality of Southeast Asian fashion. The Czech pavilion features the brand LINDA PRO, which incorporates traditional glass craftsmanship into handbag design, bringing a fresh creative approach. The Canadian pavilion showcases brands led by female, indigenous and diverse background designers, highlighting cultural diversity. Japan also brings a number of emerging brands, including HOUGA and THE NERDYS, while the Australian pavilion features brands including BONDI BORN and bond-eye, among others. In addition, there are pavilions from South Korea, Macau and the Philippines. In addition, the fair brings together design forces from a total of 25 countries and regions, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Peru, Singapore, Taiwan, the Netherlands, the United States, Ukraine and Vietnam, nine of which are first-time exhibitors, further consolidating CENTRESTAGE's important position as Asia's fashion hub and international exchange platform.
CENTRESTAGE is not only a platform for fashion brands to showcase their collections, but also an important venue for industry exchanges and discussions on future development. This year's fair has invited a number of international masters and industry leaders to participate in seminars and designer sharing sessions. Internationally renowned couture designer Guo Pei released more than 30 masterpieces with the theme of 'Liuguang' at the CENTREST Captured on September 1 at the West Kowloon Cultural District M+, some of which are also on display at the fair. Tomorrow (September 4), she will attend the 'Master Sharing Session' to share her design concepts and journey with the audience. International fashion legend Professor Jimmy Choo OBE hosted a sharing session on the first day of the fair (September 3) to introduce and showcase his JCA-London Fashion Academy and the works of emerging designers nurtured by the academy; On September 5, Charles Jeffrey, designer of London brand Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY, will also host a sharing session to discuss his avant-garde creations and fashion vision. There will also be a number of forums at the fair covering topics such as fashion design, circular fashion and sustainability, further promoting industry exchange and cooperation and consolidating Hong Kong's position as Asia's fashion hub.
Fashion Hong Kong 10th Anniversary: Gathering the Power of Local Brands
During the fair, more than 40 activities will be held, including nearly 30 fashion shows, setting a record in the past decade and bringing a dazzling fashion feast to the audience. The Fashion Hong Kong Runway Show, organised by the HKTDC, was also held on the first day of the fair, presenting the creative collections of four local brands, ANGUS TSUI, ARTY:ACTIVE, IP AXIS INDUSTRIAL STUDIO and selfFab. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Fashion Hong Kong's overseas fashion promotion series, and the fashion show will explore the theme of 'A Decade of Design: What Do You See? What Do You Feel?' to explore the creative journey of Hong Kong designers and the fusion of visuals and emotions.
In addition to Fashion Hong Kong, the fair will also feature fashion shows from local and overseas brands, showcasing different cultures and styles. These include new collections from Hong Kong brands 112 mountainyam, DorisKath and KOWLOON CITY BOY, as well as collections from Cambodian brand NATACHA VAN and Japanese brand Snidel, and the grand finale, CAMMIE CHAN CHEONGSAM, which extends cheongsam design to adult, children's and pet clothing to promote the concept of inclusiveness.
A number of cross-regional and cross-sector collaborations will also be featured at the fair, such as the 'Greater Bay Area Fashion Show' hosted by Fashion Farm Foundation, the 'Macao Fashion Show' hosted by Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, and the Thai designer fashion show, further highlighting CENTRESTAGE's role as an international exchange platform. In addition, a number of fashion design competitions will be held during the fair, including the Young Knitwear Designer Contest organised by the Wool Research and Testing Centre, and the 'Deep'裁 - Fashion Design Competition organised by the Asia New Generation Cultural and Creative Design Competition, allowing young designers to showcase their potential; Redress, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting sustainability, will also host the final of the 'Redress Design Award', which has been established for 15 years, to further promote the industry's attention to eco-design.
As an important platform for nurturing new talent, the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest (YDC) will be held on September 6. This year, we have specially invited British designer Charles Jeffrey as a guest judge. His brand Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY is renowned for its bold and vibrant use of colour, combining art performance with fashion design, and is well-known in the London fashion industry, and is also loved by international stars including Harry Styles, Rita Ora and Tilda Swinton. Together with the professional judging panel, the 'Champion', 'Award of Excellence', 'Best Visual Presentation', and 'My Favourite Collection' will be selected from the ten shortlisted designers to discover the next generation of fashion design forces. This year's fair features six major theme zones, covering a diverse range of fashion industry sectors. The newly added Accessories zone focuses on jewellery, footwear, handbags and gifts, responding to the huge demand for fashion accessories in the market; the Athleisure zone showcases sports fashion that combines design and functionality; the Craftsmanship zone displays exquisite craftsmanship; the Contemporary zone presents avant-garde designs; the Urban zone focuses on trendy products for young people, including the Petrolhead fashion brand curated by artist Zhang Jicong; and the Circular Fashion zone showcases circular fashion and sustainable designs. Some exhibitors at the fair also offer retail products, including Bethel, Glocal Mahjong One Tube, IP AXIS INDUSTRIAL STUDIO, Petrolhead and YUE HWA, where visitors can purchase their favourite designs on the spot.
In addition to the exhibitions and fashion shows, the venue features a number of AI interactive experiences and workshops where visitors can design and create fashion accessories with their own style, unleashing their designer potential and experiencing the fun of fashion creation. In addition, local perfume brand CitiScent will create a bespoke scent for CENTRESTAGE that blends vitality and elegance, and visitors can redeem a 2ml bottle by making any purchase on-site, while stocks last.
The HKTDC continues to invite global buyers to source at CENTRESTAGE, including large buying offices such as WDLT 117 Apparel Inc. from Canada, Zalora from Indonesia, Sugar Srl from Italy, and Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores from Japan.
CENTRESTAGE is held concurrently with the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and Salon de TE, offering a diverse fashion journey for attendees, who can shop for branded clothing and famous watches and clocks under one roof. During the period, the CENTRESTAGE X Watch & Clock Lucky Draw will also be held.
